How it works

How We Work With Mumbai Clients

FinAura is based in Bangalore, so work with Mumbai clients runs remotely: video calls, shared folders, and access to your accounting software and government portals. None of the monthly work needs us in the room.

  1. Step 1

    A first conversation

    • A video call at a time that suits you
    • Your business, your filings, your gaps
    • A written scope and quote
  2. Step 2

    Set-up

    • Access to your books and portals
    • Maharashtra registrations checked
    • A compliance calendar for your entity
  3. Step 3

    Every month

    • Books closed and reconciled
    • GST, TDS and payroll filed
    • One list of questions, not ten emails
  4. Step 4

    Review

    • A monthly review call
    • MIS and what it means for cash
    • Year-end and audit prepared early

The rules, in plain English

Maharashtra Rules We Handle

Maharashtra State Tax on Professions, Trades, Callings and Employments Act, 1975

Professional tax: PTRC and PTEC

Employers in Maharashtra hold a registration certificate (PTRC) to deduct professional tax from salaries and pay it to the state, and the business itself holds an enrolment certificate (PTEC) and pays its own. The tax is administered by the state's GST Department.

Maharashtra Shops and Establishments (Regulation of Employment and Conditions of Service) Act, 2017

Registration or intimation

Establishments with fewer than ten workers file an intimation when they start. Following a state circular of April 2026, establishments with ten or more workers register under the Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions Code instead of separately under this Act, and the Act's other rules still apply.

Maharashtra Labour Welfare Fund Act, 1953

Twice a year

Covered establishments deduct the employee's share from June and December salaries and pay it, with their own share, to the Maharashtra Labour Welfare Board. We confirm the current amounts before each deduction.

Reporting foreign investment

When an Indian company issues shares to a foreign investor it reports the issue to the RBI through the FIRMS portal, and companies with foreign investment file an annual return of foreign liabilities and assets. Investments abroad are reported under the overseas investment rules.

Questions we get asked

Mumbai: Questions, Answered

Do you have an office in Mumbai?

No. FinAura is based in Bangalore and works with Mumbai businesses remotely: video calls, shared folders and access to your accounting software and government portals. The monthly work does not need us on site.

Do you handle Maharashtra professional tax (PTRC and PTEC)?

Yes. We obtain both certificates where they apply, set professional tax up in payroll, and pay and file it every period.

Do I need a Gumasta licence in Mumbai?

"Gumasta" is the common name for registration under the Maharashtra Shops and Establishments Act. Today an establishment with fewer than ten workers files an intimation, and one with ten or more registers under the labour code on working conditions. We confirm which applies to you.

Which Registrar of Companies handles a Mumbai company?

A company with its registered office in Mumbai comes under the Registrar of Companies in Mumbai. The MCA reorganised Maharashtra's ROC offices in 2026, so for companies in Thane, Navi Mumbai and nearby districts we check which office now has jurisdiction. All filings are made online on the MCA portal.

We have foreign shareholders. Can you handle the RBI reporting?

Yes. We prepare FC-GPR when shares are issued to a foreign investor, the annual FLA return, and ODI filings for investments abroad, and keep the company's records consistent with them.

Who signs audits and certificates?

Our team prepares the work. Audits, certificates and other attest work are certified and signed by associate practising Chartered Accountants and Company Secretaries we coordinate with.

How much do your services cost in Mumbai?

Fees depend on the size of the business and the scope, so we quote after a first conversation. Tell us what you need and we reply within one business day.
