A common question

Who is covered by ESI?

ESI covers employees earning up to the wage ceiling notified for coverage, in establishments the law covers, with medical care for the family and cash benefits for sickness, maternity and injury.

Under the Code on Social Security, ESI coverage is being extended to more areas and to some hazardous work regardless of headcount. We check whether and how it applies to you.

Questions we get asked

ESI Registration and Compliance: Questions, Answered

When does a business need ESI registration?

When it has the number of employees the law sets in an area where ESI is notified, or does work the code brings into coverage. We check your case.

Do employees above the wage ceiling contribute?

No. Coverage depends on wages; employees who earn above the notified ceiling are outside ESI for that contribution period.

What does ESI give employees?

Medical care for the employee and family, and cash benefits for sickness, maternity, disablement and dependants.

What happens if contributions are late?

Interest and damages apply. We file and pay each month.
