Import Export Code (IEC)

Every business that imports or exports goods, and many that export services, needs an Import Export Code from the Directorate General of Foreign Trade. FinAura applies for your IEC, links it to your bank and GST, and makes the yearly update the DGFT requires so the code stays active.

  • Certification through associate practising CAs and CSs
  • Bangalore and across India
  • One team from set-up to compliance

A common question

Why does an IEC need updating every year?

The DGFT requires every IEC holder to confirm or update its details each year, even if nothing has changed. An IEC that is not updated can be deactivated, stopping shipments and payments.

We put the update on your compliance calendar.

Questions we get asked

IEC Questions, Answered

Who needs an Import Export Code?

Businesses importing or exporting goods, and service exporters claiming export benefits. Some limited exemptions apply.

Is IEC linked to PAN?

Yes. The IEC is based on the business's PAN, and each PAN can have only one IEC.

Does an IEC expire?

It has no expiry, but it must be updated every year or it can be deactivated.

Do I also need GST and an LUT to export?

To export without paying IGST, a GST-registered exporter files an LUT each year. Our taxation team handles it.
